I have a set of rims laying around and i want to try painting them myself...but my question is:
Where are you guys finding the different colors at? ...Or does it matter if its wheel paint or not??? ive seen some of you guys with wheels that you painted yourself, how did you do it? ive been to most auto parts stores and i can only find grey, clearcoat and bronze...i want to get some blue or red!! |

DUPLICOLOR! You can get it at any auto parts store pretty much. You don't even have to look hard!

Doesnt have to be specific wheel paint. Just be sure to prep the wheel real well.
![]() Some of the best paint to use is Montana paint but you can only find it in graffitti shops or online. ![]() |

![]() i also have my crx rims that i decided to strip the paint off of...the previous owner spray painted them black and when i went to use some aircraft stripper...it ate all the way to the shiny part, which i love! but then i tried to do it to the other rim and it looks like i have to sand it down ![]() |

If you want a longer lasting finish you could try powdercoat.

I hear that, plus you could switch the color up for cheap if you decide you want something different

whenever i have painted wheel i try not to take them to bare aluminum, just becuz of the corosion problems you can have with it. depending on how you are spraying them i use a gun and a urethane clear. looks best and is strongest. but for a spray can i wouldnt do much more then clean clean and scrub them with some type of abrasive like 400 grit or scotch brite and if you prime them or not.
i took a set gray of beemer wheels and polished a lip and painted the centers black and they are still holding very nicely! __________________ 2002 sebring silver s2000 inlinepro kit w/gt35r r200 diff kit http://www.jdmcity.com/showthread.ph...361#post221361 1997 TYPE R Cloneish build http://jdmcity.com/showthread.php?t=15798 '93 civic vx g23 12:1 e85 |

yeah but don't use too coarse of sand paper or you'll see all the scratch marks in the paint :thumbsdow:

Aircraft remover, Scotch brite, Dupont etching primer, paint, clear. I have even sand blasted a couple sets of the LS Meshies that had scratches too deep to really lightly sand out, took a lot of the imperfections and corrosion out, wheels came out looking brand new only in a dark gun metal color after I coated them.

Anyone have a suggestion for a good bright pink paint? I'm gonna paint my stock rims for winter and get some good rims for summer. Just seeing if anyone knows of a good bright hot/florescent pink paint for the wheels? Thanks

The biggest elements to any good paint job is PREP and PATIENCE. If you think the surface is clean, don't.....clean it again. If it fish eye's then sand it down again and do it over.
I've also noticed that with the duplicolor, shake it really well, read the can, and it works a lot better. __________________ Cheap, Fast or Reliable, You Can Only Choose Two. |
