Default D15 Maintenance

I have a D15Z1 with unknown mileage on it, in a high mileage chassis.
Motor seems to have at least a consistent slow oil leak around the valve cover/valve cover gasket. Am planning on replacing the throttle body and any other basic engine gaskets.
Is there anything else I should do maintenance wise while doing so, besides some cleaning?
Has new filters, plugs, O2 sensor already.

I would consider a leak down test and even a compression test to make sure everything in the headgasket and ring department are good. If you are planning to get the engine off vehicle, then that is when you can REALLY do some extensive stuff to it. at that point I would recommend oil pan gasket, rear main seal, new clutch maybe? and fluid change on everything. If you plan on changing the Tranny fluid make sure to keep it Genuine Honda/Acura so it is up to par. Other then that most upper and lower gasket kits online can get you almost EVERYTHING you need for this rebuild. There are tons of ways to do this rebuild....just gotta know how far your wallet can go!!

Thanks for the advice Rodney. Right now I'm planning on keeping it a cheaper, single person DIY job in my driveway. I'll definitely look into the leak down and compression tests. Fortunately it has a new clutch! I just changed the oil so I may go ahead and do a tranny and coolant flush while I'm at it.

Sweet, then you are most of the way......has anything been done to water pump and timing belt? If not, that my friend is a GREAT thing to get done on this besides gaskets etc. As you know, one slip of that belt and shit hits the fan....lol Either way, good luck with it all and keep us posted on what you've done to it after a few weeks or month.

No doubt. I wanted to do the timing on my last Subaru but it all went to shiz before I could. Will def add timing to the list. Thanks again.

check fuel filter, its usually never changed. its cheap too

take out injector and spray it down with carb cleaner if your anal.

there isnt really much u can do till something break or sounds funny lol.

Do leak down test.

if all is good...
then i would mod the engine in this order... bag for buck

1) take of head, clean it, get nice 5 angle valve job, no porting, reface valves, mill the head to bump up CR, new valve seals

2) pick a nice cam & upgrade snap fit valve springs with stock retainers

3) port match stock z6 IM with 60mm b series tb
4) get IM heat insulator gasket
5) degree cam
6) save money for dyno time

I think since the motors been built for proven Prius like gas mileage, I am going to avoid modding it. Plus, I'm a poor college student. One day, when I'm getting paid at a real job I plan on making it a near 1000hp, AWD completely electric conversion.

Why go with 1000AWHP with electric motors when you can do it cheaper and easier with an internal combustion engine staying FWD and burn corn? That is environmentally friendly. And a renewable resource. Does not cause hazardous waste like those batteries eventually will.

Avoiding the environmental, political, and economical aspects of corn based ethanol use, it's pretty simple.
A.) It hasn't been done.
B.) I am going into that field (electric motors and drive systems for automotive applications and renewable energy power plants)
C.) Near instant torque
D.) 0 emissions in the drive cycle
E.) Creating a working proof of the potential for electric powered cars.
