Default Galant VR4/Grandma car build

I don't know why I have never bothered to post a build thread, but now that my car is back on the road I am feeling a little inspired.

Here is my current Galant VR4 shortly after purchase

It was originally a Colorado car, and as a result has very little rust. It was owned by it's last owner for 15 years who made it very clear that he cared for the car.

After buying the car I fixed a couple tie rods and bushings, replaced the tires, rewired the fuel pump, added a boost controller, and did all the general maintenance the car needed to be reliable. From May of 2009 to October of 2009 I put 10,000 miles on the car and loved every minute of it... then this happened.

The car still ran, but obviously had a massive oil leak, and the oil pressure wasn't the best

So out with the old ...

and in with the new

This is as the car sits now (front bumper is still being hacked up)

Here is a semi-complete mod list

Engine
92 Eagle Talon engine
Crower rods
J.E. 8.5:1 pistons
ARP main studs
ARP headbolts
Balance shaft delete with Mirage stub shaft
1990 dsm oil filter housing with B&M cooler and -8an lines
Rebuilt 6 bolt head with cleaned up casting flash
MLS headgasket
Cyclone dual runner intake manifold controlled through Dsmlink's nitrous controls
Force Performance exhaust manifold
Ported MHI Evo 3 16g with 34mm wastgate
-10an oil return line
Buschur Racing O2 housing with wastegate dump
Punishment Racing 3inch 2g downpipe
Buschur Racing 3inch 1g dsm catback
ETS front mount intercooler
Dejon 1g dsm intake pipe
Aeromotive fuel pressure regulator
1000cc FIC injectors
Walbro GSS 255 fuel pump
Dsmlink Version 3 running an evo 8 timing curve
Mishimoto 1g dsm Radiator
HKS radiator cap/ 1g dsm thermostat housing
Seafoam catch can
Lawnmower battery

Trans:
Stock GVR4 transmission with 140,000 miles
Shimmed pivot ball
ACT 2600 clutch
ACT XACT flywheel
Angry hydraulics

Interior:
Eagle Talon steering wheel
1g dsm shift boot
2g dsm shift knob
Autometer boost gauge
Innovate wideband
Junkyard JVC head unit
dual gauge mount below the stereo

Exterior:
Eterna ZR4 grill
Faded Kensington Grey Paint(Next project)

Suspension/Brakes:
All stock with abs delete and functioning aws

I wanted a car that would be reliable and have a decent low end. The car could definitely use a set of cams and probably an Evo mas, but for now I'm just enjoying it.

I have to be going 30 for it to work! haha

It is in pretty good condition, besides the oxidation on the hood, roof, and wing. It had a ton of door dings all over, but I had all of them pulled out the first week I bought it. The interior is also in great shape, usually the vr4 seats split and crack, but the old man had some weird furry seat covers that aparently did a great job preserving them.

4WS is annoying on these cars. It sucks when you have yourself set up in the corner and then it kicks in. Its passive 4WS and has only 1 degree of effectiveness IIRC, its not active like the Prelude SI 's and cannot be compared to it.

KG is the best color, I have only had 1 KG gvr4. Had pretty much every other color and year, sunroof, non-sunroof, cd player, non cd-player option'd gvr4s.

Glad to see you are not destroying this car and making it a ricermobile and cutting corners. I would be interested in grabbing it from you if you lose interest next year sometime.

These gvr4's are like crack to me, I can never ever walk away from them forever.

Nope, the only real spot of rust on the car is around the windsheild frame where water leaked in.

Maybe I can give you a ride on the 5th or 6th.

I've tried to do everything the right way, but there is still a lot to do to get it where I want it. I doubt I will lose interest in this car, but I know you would take good care of it if I decided to sell.

Sorry, school has been crazy, and I don't want to drive it much till I get a different oil return line for the turbo.

Decided to put the bumper on last weekend

I actually liked driving it without the bumper, I got a lot of funny looks.

I also got the secondaries set to 3500 rpms, and switched the stainless steel drain off the turbo to a push-lock style.

It needs a lsd and a better transmission first, but I've considered putting evo suspension on if I could get a set for a decent price.
